Wendilyn Emrys, holds a degree in History from UCLA with a special focus on Ancient History, Archæology, Mythology and the History of Religions, with an emphasis on Pre-Indo-European Cultures, Goddess Cultures, and Minoan Crete. She was fortunate to have studied Pre-Indo-European Archaeology and Archæomythology with the late Marija Gimbutas, Ph.D. and Goddess Mythology with Miriam Dexter, Ph.D. while at UCLA. Wendilyn is currently pursuing her artwork and sometimes freelances as a consultant to the Entertainment Industry. Her most recent film credit was on the Sony/Columbia/Tristar Picture HIDEAWAY where she received on-screen credit as "Archæomythologist."
From an extremely early age Wendilyn was fascinated with Mythology and Ancient Religions. Her family, being an eclectic mix of Atheist (father), Roman Catholic (mother), and Jewish (sister), did not interfere in her intellectual and spiritual explorations. At the age of seven she began seriously studying Mythology, Archæology, Art and Ancient History. Wendilyn is a self-taught artist. Both her mother and sister were talented artists, but did not focus their efforts on their art.
A self described "hybrid" -- because of a rich genetic mix of Welsh, Irish, Scottish, English, Austrian, Dutch, French, and Choctaw Indian bloodlines -- and "mutant" -- because of her odd eyes: the right is blue and the left is green -- Wendilyn pulls from her various cultural backgrounds and interests in creating her artworks in a style that her admirers have dubbed "Neo-Primitive Symbolist Folk Art", Art Naif (Naive Art) or simply "Eikonographia".
Wendilyn's paintings have been exhibited at:
The Desmond Gallery in West Hollywood, California
October 1995 - May 1996
Java Goddess in Burbank, California
June 8 - July 8, 1996
The Goddess Shop in West Hollywood, California
