CHOICE
Recce is short for "reconnoiter" (to scout locations). It's a term widely used throughout Great Britain. We went to England and Wales to "recce" locations for the feature screenplays Bloodthirsty and Dangerous and Antimatter In My Soup. Originally, we had intended to keep the entire production of Bloodthirsty and Dangerous to take place in the Pacific Northwest as is in most of the script (British Columbia, Washington or Oregon), but we still wanted to film the Welsh locations in Britain.
After some recce in England and Wales for Bloodthirsty and Dangerous, we discovered the best spots for the Roman scenes. We also ran into many wonderful British industry people (actors, crew, producers) and we realized that we could probably keep the budget down and still get an excellent crew by filming entirely on location in Great Britain. Our main problem is this: though Iron Age Villages are available, and so are Roman sites, we must find a town that will double for a modern day Pacific Northwest town. Trees and farms are no problem, but they must look American. Where is a town we can dress to look American?
At this point, we're still stuck on that part of it. If anyone in Britain knows of a town that looks like a small American town (in England/Scotland/Ireland/Wales) please sign the Hemavore Guest Book and let us know where it is. If you have any images, you can send them to us here by mail at Hemavore@bloodthirsty.com.
